Congleton’s Green Festival returns this September with a programme of free events, and you’re invited to be part of it! The festival ends with the Green Fayre on Saturday 26th September when The High Street will be transformed into a vibrant hub of more than 30 stalls, all offering ideas, products, and services to help you live more sustainably. From eco-friendly organisations and local businesses to hands-on experiences in the Repair Café and the Big Clothes Movement, there’s something for everyone. Come along, get inspired, and discover simple ways to make a big difference for our community and our planet.

Green Fayre 26th September
We Have the Power to Impact Our Future, and We’re Doing Something About It
The world is experiencing more extreme weather conditions: intense heat, drought, floods and storms. The polar ice caps are melting. Global temperatures are up by 1.2 0C and increasing by 0.2 0C per decade. At the same time, the planet is also facing a nature emergency with a million of the nine million species facing extinction.
In the face of such extreme odds, you can wonder about the part you play. First, it’s about education, understanding the problem and then the practical steps we can all take to reduce our carbon foot.
The Green Fayre is a chance to explore the issues and solutions the town has to offer. This has been organised by Congleton Partnership and Congleton Town Council.

What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK?
Join us for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing – an eye-opening 50-minute film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like:
🌧️ Extreme weather
🍞 Food security
🏥 Health
💷 Cost of living
The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the UK.
After the film there will be an open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally.
We will be inviting the local MP, Sarah Russell, and are optimistic that they will join with constituents for this important discussion about our future.
Confirmed Panelists in attendance will be:
Zoe Robinson is a Professor of Sustainability in Higher Education. She has held roles as Director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures for three years, with responsibility for catalysing transdisciplinary research on real sustainability challenges, and University Director of Education for Sustainability for ten years, with responsibility for embedding sustainability across the curriculum and student experience at Keele University.
Kaye Kelland – Advocacy Programme Manager at Cheshire Wildlife Trust. For decades, Cheshire Wildlife Trust has been working on the ground to restore nature. They protect and recover important habitats that lock carbon safely away and limit the effects of climate change, including peatland, saltmarsh, fen and woodland.

All stalls will have information, products or services which will help you to live more sustainably in Congleton.

Have you got your Green Passport?
Discover Congleton’s greener side this summer! Explore inspiring places, join fun activities, support local projects and take simple actions for nature. Collect stickers as you go and become a Beartown Green Champion!
Pick up your free Green Passport from Congleton Museum or the Congleton Information Centre. You can also collect your activity stickers there.
Some activities can be completed at any time, while others take place on specific dates or require advance booking. Please check the organiser’s website or event listing for details.
Collect as many stickers as you can over the summer and bring your completed Green Passport to the Green Festival to enter the prize draw on September 26th.

Congleton In Bloom Back-to-Back Gardens
Visit the Congleton in Bloom display at the Tunnel in Congleton Park. Explore the gardens and decorated wheelbarrows, then choose the one that looks the wildest and most suitable for bees. Open Saturdays and Sundays, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm, until mid-September.

Garden Design for Ecology
Learn how to design gardens that support biodiversity. Join an award-winning garden designer, Tom Saunders, for an in-person workshop at Astbury Mere, where you’ll learn how to create beautiful, habitat-led garden designs that support wildlife.
