Quinta Park – proposed planting
Planting and maintenance dates and times: See current programme.
Description
Hedge planting with two hedgerow trees along the northern boundary of the green space between Sandbach Road, Ullswater Road, Coniston Road and Brooklands Road. The green space is owned by Cheshire East Council and managed by Congleton Town Council. Both support tree and hedge planting to help reduce the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Consultation results
‘I like it’ (supportive): 6
‘I don’t like it’ (against): 5
‘I like it, but…’ (asking for some changes): 1
Whilst there was a majority in support of the proposals, some issues were raised that require further discussion with stakeholders before the scheme can be finalised.
Revised plan
The Tree Council has agreed 100% funding for the work under its Branching Out Fund.
Revised layout
Aftercare
The hedge will be well mulched to keep down weeds until the planting is established. In the first year, volunteers will help with aftercare but in the long term, the planting will be maintained by the Town Council’s Streetscape team. The details are still to be confirmed but it is expected that the hedge will be maintained at below the level of adjoining fencing, with trimming on alternate sections each year to allow some fruit and berries to develop each year for wildlife and amenity benefit.
