Elizabeth’s Group
Raising awareness of and commemorating Congleton’s pioneering suffragist campaigner, Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy (1833–1918)
Elizabeth’s group continues to raise awareness if you would like to support their work, you can become a Friend of Elizabeth from £2 per month.
Elizabeth’s Group is a team of activists based in Congleton, spreading the word about this wonderful woman and her contribution to women’s rights.
Our aims are to ensure Elizabeth is known locally, nationally and internationally and we have raised a statue of her in the centre of Bridge Street, Congleton.
We undertake a wide range of awareness and fundraising activities and have fun whilst doing it – sometimes dressing as suffragists.
We have trustees, a working committee and a growing number of supporters. We are always happy to meet new people who would like to help us with achieving our aims.
Elizabeth’s Group is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission. Charity Number: 1181256.
Visit the Elizabeth’s Group website to learn more about the wonderful life of Elizabeth.

Hear from the artist herself, Hazel Reeves:
“I am absolutely thrilled to be sculpting Elizabeth, such an extraordinary activist who had been written out of history until Elizabeth’s Group was compelled to tell her story in bronze.”
