Margaret Williamson Memorial

The fund will be open for applications in March 2025.

The fund keeps alive the memory of Margaret Williamson, Congleton’s “First Lady”, who died in 2015. Margaret was a driving force and inspiration to improve Congleton and the aim of the Fund is to keep that spirit going.

The Fund will support ideas and projects which improve the cultural environment in Congleton and District. These were things which Margaret was passionate about.
The Fund will give priority to ideas and projects based in Congleton and District which meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Provide opportunities for people to take part in musical, theatrical, literary,
  performing art, dance, or other artistic activities.
• Provide opportunities for education and awareness of the natural environment,
  especially among young people.
• Conserve or improve the natural environment for the benefit of the people in Congleton and District

Community Trust Fund. Currently, the fund stands at £72,100. A grants panel has been set up, first grants to be awarded in spring 2017.

Since 2017 the fund has allocated 38 grants totalling more than £21,000. This includes £4,000 which was added to the funds from the proceeds of the Dane Hydro scheme in 2021. Grants have varied from £100 to £1400 over the past four rounds of funding.

Awards 2024

We received a total of 18 applications, collectively requesting £11,796 against the available funds of £2,525.00.

Each application represented a project of merit, which made the allocation process challenging due to the limited funds at our disposal.
