Lowe Avenue

COMPLETED

Description

The green space on Lowe Avenue is owned by Cheshire East Council and managed by Congleton Town Council. At present the whole area is mown grass, and hedges, trees and mini orchard planting have been suggested to enhance the space. Both Cheshire East and Congleton Town Council support tree and hedge planting to help reduce the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss. Planting would also have wider benefits – it would increase the value of the green space for capturing and storing carbon, create habitat for wildlife and help to filter out air-borne pollutants.

Funding for planting would need to be confirmed before any planting was carried out, so it is possible that it would be done in November 2023 rather than this March. It might be possible to make a start earlier. The planting would be carried out by volunteers and would be well mulched to help keep down weeds until it is established.

Aftercare

Volunteers would initially help with aftercare of the planting but in the long term it would be maintained by the Town Council’s Streetscape team.
