GRAHAM are the Principal Contractor working on behalf of Cheshire East Council to deliver the Congleton Link Road Project.
Please note below, an update on the road closures, temporary traffic lights and diversions for your information.
TEMPORARY CARRIAGEWAY & TRAFFIC LIGHTS – Giantswood Lane, Between Westlow Mere and Smithy Lane, Hulme Walfield
In order to facilitate construction of the Giantswood Lane overbridge, traffic has been diverted onto a temporary carriageway. A 10 mile per hour speed restriction has been imposed 24 hours a day.
Started – 1st May 2019
Planned Completion 21st February 2020
ROAD CLOSURE – Giantswood Lane, Between Westlow Mere and Smithy Lane, Hulme Walfield
The closure will enable the completion of the concrete works to the new structure, carrying out essential utility diversions and resurfacing the realigned carriageway across the bridge.
Planned Start Date – 21st February 2020
Planned Completion – Early April 2020
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS – Holmes Chapel Road, Somerford
Temporary traffic lights will be in place to enable United Utilities to carry out sewer diversion works.
Planned Start Date – 19th February 2020
Planned Completion Date – 28th February 2020
ROAD CLOSURE – Sandy Lane, Between A54 Holmes Chapel Road and A534 Sandbach Road, Somerford
The closure will enable us to access the adjacent land to carry out earthworks, divert drainage and construct the Sandbach Road and Holmes Chapel Road roundabouts. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the route again from Easter 2020.
Started – 28th May 2019
Planned Completion – April 2020
ROAD CLOSURE – Back Lane (West), Somerford
The closure will enable the construction of Back Lane (West) including the new roundabout, There is no access to through traffic along this section of Back Lane, with access to the playing fields been maintained via Holmes Chapel Road. Access to properties on Back Lane is been maintained via Chelford Road.
Started – 2nd September 2019
Planned Completion – Late 2020
TEMPORARY TWO 2-WAY CARRIAGEWAY – Chelford Road, Between Black Firs Lane and Back Lane, Somerford
To enable the construction of the Chelford Road structure and divert existing services, traffic has been diverted onto a temporary 2-way carriageway.
Temporary Speed Limit – The speed limit has been reduced from national speed limit to 10mph through the works area. The reduction is necessary due to the alignment of the temporary carriageway and interface of construction traffic accessing to and from the works site.

For the duration of the Chelford Road overbridge construction
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS – Macclesfield Road, Eaton
Temporary traffic lights will be in place to enable BT service diversion.
Started – 17th February 2020
Planned Completion – 21st February 2020
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS – Sandbach Road, Astbury
Temporary traffic lights will be in place between the hours of 9.30 am – 3.30 pm to enable service diversions.
Planned Start Date – 18th February 2020
Planned Completion – 18th February 2020
OVERNIGHT TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS – Sandbach Road, Astbury
Temporary traffic lights will be in place between the hours of 8.00 pm – 4.00 am to enable Openreach fibre connection.
Planned Start Date – 19th February 2020
Planned Completion – 21st February 2020
