Important information about the Dementia Friendly Communities recognition scheme from Alzheimer’s Society.
“Our Dementia Friendly Communities recognition scheme was set up to inspire and support community-led groups to grow into the successful and sustainable groups we see today. As dementia-friendliness has grown into a wider social movement, so too have Dementia Friendly Community groups flourished, leading and delivering their own plans to improve things for people living with dementia locally.
For these reasons, we have taken the decision to end Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friendly Communities recognition scheme and our direct investment in this work.
Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friendly Communities recognition scheme will come to an end on 31 December 2023.”
Diane and dementia-friendly leads from surrounding towns are meeting to discuss the way forward considering the update above from the Alzheimer’s Society, it presents an opportunity to continue the excellent work started so far.
